Fingers to the Keyboard

For me, the toughest thing about blogging has been coming up with things to write about (and sometimes having the time to write them).

I write often for work, so it’s not like my writing muscles go unused. The other day I was presented with a (non-work, but not something I want to get into here) situation that really disappointed me. I decided rather than making something about it at the time, I would write an e-mail to the other people involved. I composed my thoughts, wrote a personal, yet factual e-mail and sent it. I was instantly relieved. I think if I look at writing from that viewpoint- an outlet, rather than something I feel I have to do, the ideas will come.

And yes, I know that I could always put up pictures of Hope and/or Luke. I would, but it’s tough when one of them doesn’t like to smile for pictures (it’s not the one you think it is!). But Hope and Luke content will he forthcoming.

No New Weezer Album? Say It Ain’t So Pat

It’s been roughly two years since Weezer released three albums in the span of a few months. Since then, the band has toured, released a few covers and held a cruise I heard was pretty cool.

The band’s plans for the foreseeable future include playing together and more shows, but no new album. As Baltimore’s City News reports from an interview with drummer Pat Wilson:

“No news,” says drummer Pat Wilson.

Even though we have had multi-year stretches without new songs before, it’s still frustrating each time. In early 2011, the band released a few clips of an interesting-sounding group of sea-themed songs. And they have a ton of unreleased material from their 20 years together as a band. But for some reason, they’re not in any rush to release anything new.

It’s going to be a long winter.

Honoring the Yankee Flipper

This weekend, the family and I went to the Darby Creek Park outside of Columbus, a nice park with many trails and a small herd of bison. We noticed some construction at the park. It looked like they were building a new road and I spotted this sign:

The Jack McDowell? The former Cy Young award winner who flipped off a home crowd at Yankee Stadium after giving up nine runs in less than five innings? Personally, I think it’s about time. The city of Columbus has historical ties to the Yankees and this was one of the most memorable moments of the ’95 season.

It’s not like there’s another Jack McDowell out there, is there?
