Out of left field

24: 10 p.m. -11 p.m.

I didn’t see that coming.

Second good episode of 24 in a row that had some things that bugged me, but the closing scenes were cool enough.

My thoughts:

-Audrey got reinstated pretty quickly. Five minutes after being tortured, she’s picking up and using strange earpieces.

-The visual of Jack walking through the smoke was pretty cool.

-Last week, Jack was upset. Now he’s “scared.” This season is definitely taking us to new places.

-When does Vice President Leland Palmer’s hair turn gray?

-Thank you for answering how Wayne got the gun.

-Evelyn actually matters to the plot. I didn’t see that one coming.

-Jean Smart can sure rock a turtleneck! No First Lady of Cleavage jokes this week (or, did I already use that last week?).

-The bad guys kidnapped Evelyn’s daughter. Was I asleep during a previous hour?

-Karen addressing the CTU staff from the second floor looked to me like Mussolini’s address from the balcony.

-Can Miles stand up straight? Every time he talks to someone, he’s hunched over. He’s like the Homeland Security Hunchback.

-I think Kim Raver (Audrey) is forgetting that her character was tortured less than an hour ago.

-Chlöe is not going to like being a political pawn.

-So they’re firing all the CTU employees. Does that mean Sexual Harassment Sherry is on her way out after just one episode? Good.

-How does Wayne handle everyone saying what a great guy his brother is? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone (except for David) say anything good about Wayne. The guy must have a huge inferiority complex. Although, for a member of the Palmer family, I’d rather have him around than any of the kids.

-I’ve liked the music so far this season. Except for this episode. Too soap-opera-ey.

-The showdown at the whatever that place was supposed to be was pretty cool. Although, you think being a great strategist, Jack would have had Evelyn stash the evidence somewhere else.

-Damn good reveal at the end. I’m not sure I’m happy with it. I’m trying to figure out how he could have pulled it off. And I don’t know if I buy Charles Logan as Verbal Kint. But it beats going with the bad guy being VP Leland Palmer, which would have been a bit obvious. Now instead of being evil, he’s just crazy. And instead of being just a clueless putz, Logan is an evil putz. Nice tradeoff.

  1. For some reason, not until this episode did I ask myself, “Boy, where would Jack be without his cell phone and PDA?”

Can you hear me now? You better or Jack Bauer will kill you.

And just once I want Peter Weller to say “Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.” How long can we chase this man down?

  2. So you didn’t think that about Jack’s phone in the second episode when it gave him the schmematics to the airport?

One other thing, when Evelyn said her daughter had been kidnapped, I thought “Oh great, so in the past two years, she adopted Kim Bauer.” I was glad to see that wasn’t the case.

  3. I think Evelyn actually lives in LA, and helps the First Lady out while she’s on the West Coast. That would explain a) why they have her daughter there in LA, and b) why she was leaving at the end – she was going home.

  4. Please don’t tell me you’re Barry the Shrink 🙂

That makes sense about Evelyn living in LA. They just didn’t give any foreshadowing to the fact that she had a daughter, she was a target, or that she matters at all to the story.

  5. It was one of those crazy plot twists they used in season 1 because they didn’t know if the show was going to be picked up or not. I think now they do it so it doesn’t seem like season 1 was only half written 😉

…not until this episode did I ask myself, “Boy, where would Jack be without his cell phone and PDA?”

I always wonder what he would do without his manpurse.
